Budget Bathroom Remodel
I am so excited to be tackling my “master bathroom,” I can hardly wait to share it. Now, why would I put “master bathroom” in quotes, you ask? That’s because this bathroom is smaaaaallllll. My house is actually a 2 bedroom/2 bath townhouse built in 1984 and while the rooms are a decent size, there is nothing impressive about this bathroom. Aside from the size, it also looks… like this.

Not only is it out of date, it was really poorly done the last time it was “updated”:

It really has no style whatsoever, so it simply must be fixed! Here are the colors I’m thinking about:

ooo… ah… I know, right? Here are a few bathrooms with these general colors just so you can see what I’m thinking about.
The colors in this one are very close to what I’m thinking, with the exception of the tile, which looks more like what I have now versus the direction I’m going. Also I think I’ll let the mint and coral come through in accents and accessories versus actually painting the walls either of those colors.

I love how simple this bathroom is. The mirror is way too girly for me, but the colors are to die for!

The main thing about this bathroom that I love love LOVE is that coral chandelier. This is definitely a must! Plus painting a flea market chandelier is a project I’ve done before, pre-blog, so that would be a great future post!
The first thing I know I want to tackle is that tile. The tile itself is ok, but because it was so poorly cut and laid, I can’t ignore it. I’m thinking a nice grey tile like this:

Or maybe even a greyish wood look tile like this one:

Next is the walls: That wallpaper!

I have to get rid of that… I’m sure the previous owners just loved it, but it’s not for me. I’m thinking a nice crisp white is the way to go.
The plumbing is next on the list: Now this is a part I may need some help with, but I’m going to try with all my might to do it on my own.

Right now the tub faucet leaks and aesthetically it needs to be replaced because some things in the bathroom are chrome and some are brushed nickel.. I want to change them all to a nice uniform brushed nickel. Nothing too fancy, just an affordable shower head and faucet set like this one from Pfister:

The counters are a big issue. I can’t afford to replace them, so I was originally thinking about just working with that pale yellow grey combo (gag) and trying to make a color scheme around it. Then, I came across a post from Leilani at Keeping up with Mrs. Smith (unfortunately her blog is no longer with us) from when she actually covered cultured marble counter tops using a product from Rustoleum called Countertop Coating. You can find her project here. Here’s a few rooms where this product has been used and it’s amazing how great these counters look:
I also came across this post from Designer Trapped in a Lawyer’s Body where she talks about doing a concrete overlay over her cultured marble countertops. It looks super easy and so unique, I’m definitely considering doing it. you can find the product she used here and all the info about her project here. Check out how awesome this stuff is!

For one of the final touches, I want to use these self-adhesive tiles from Aspect to “frame in the mirror”

I also want to paint the cabinets white and put some funky drawer/cabinet pulls on them. What do you think about these?

Lastly, I just have to have a coral chandelier like the one in the bathroom above. I’ll buy the chandelier from a flea market and paint it myself. Then, adding coral and mint accents will be the final step! My first few searches online brought me to these products, but I am in no way ready to be thinking that far ahead yet.

I’ve got a long road ahead of me, but I’m excited about the challenge!

No doubt this will turn out great! Love the light colors you’ve chosen. Those knobs are fun!
Thanks, Stacey!
Can’t wait to follow your progress. Looks like you have put a lot of thought into the project. I love the colors too…kind of feminine, kind of boho, very chic!
I love these ideas! That mirror you mentioned was a bit ‘too girly’ for your taste is the exact thing I’ve been looking for, one mans trash and all that.
So looking forward to your bathroom updates. I remodeled my bathroom in 2013 and
it makes me smile every time I am in it! FYI the 3 basket aqua organizer on wheels
that you have posted I saw one like that today at Hobby Lobby near Stone Mountain, but
it was the raw metal so all you would need to do is paint it. Remodeling can be a back
breaker, especially in a small area. Be sure and take breaks and in my case Epson Salts
for soaking became my friend. 🙂
Thanks for the tip about the organizer! I go to the Hobby Lobby often… My bathroom is admittedly too small for an organizer like that, but the color is exactly what I’m picturing for accents.
The bathroom is coming along but it is definitely exhausting. Update coming on Tuesday!
