While the house was under construction I found this funky mirror in a consignment shop and thought it might be fun in the new powder room.
After all, Rhoda is my hero!
I taped newspaper over the mirror itself and sprayed away.
Living in an apartment didn’t exactly lend itself to furniture refinishing so I just took some newspaper out in the common area and went to work!
I worked pretty fast, and didn’t get any complaints from neighbors or the apartment management. Whew!
This paint worked just fine.
I would have liked the brown to be a deeper, but it’s still okay.
It took about 3 coats to cover that awful
After it dried completely I got to work with this stuff that Rhoda recommended. I found it at Hobby Lobby.
Let me tell you…. a little bit goes a long way. I put on a latex glove and got just a tiny dab on my fingertip. Then
I just highlighted some of the details on the mirror frame. It was a lot of fun to work with. I need to come up with some more ideas of where I can use it.
I think it turned out pretty good. I don’t know if I went too light with the gold stuff, or if the lighting in the powder room just doesn’t let it show up, but it’s still cute. At least it’s a more personal alternative than your typical builder supply or Home Depot mirror. I think it adds a bit of character.
