For the Cake Layer 1 lemon cake mix 1 egg 8 Tablespoons butter melted ½ teaspoon lemon extract ½ teaspoon lemon zest For the Gooey Cream Cheese Layer 8 ounces cream cheese room temperature 2 eggs ½ teaspoon lemon extract ½ teaspoon lemon zest 8 Tablespoons butter melted 16 ounces confectioners sugar + more for garnish
For the Gooey Cream Cheese Layer Mix all ingredients except sugar until well blended.
Add sugar and mix until well blended.
Pour over cake layer in pan.
Bake at 350 degrees for 40-45 minutes or until top is golden brown.
Cool completely before garnishing with powdered sugar if desired and cutting into squares or bars.
Salted or unsalted butter may be used.
Lemon extract and/or lemon zest may be doubled for more intense lemon flavor.
