Whether you call it a dessert charcuterie board, a dessert platter or just dessert board you'll find something here for every holiday, event or season.
What does charcuterie mean?
Charcuterie is a French word and the literal translation is "cooked flesh". So yes, the original meaning of a charcuterie board was a tray of prepared (or preserved) meats. From there cheeses were commonly added to the boards as they pair so well with meats.
In recent years the term is used to refer to any arrangement of related food items on a board or large platter, so it's no longer just about meat and cheese boards.
Here at Biscuits and Burlap we have a Breakfast Charcuterie Platter, a Picnic Charcuterie Board and Mini Charcuterie Board. None are true "charcuterie" in the literal sense, but all are what readers have come to expect.
