Looking for a delicious way to slim down for the new year? This detox smoothie with nothing but fruit and a touch of honey has all the Vitamin C and fiber you need to start your day off right.

Last weekend we went to our family's annual Cane Grinding down on the Georgia-Florida line. It's a great way to get together with family and honor the old traditions of turning sugar cane into cane syrup.

Every year I leave the farm with 2 things: a bottle of fresh cane syrup and a bag of grapefruits. My Great Aunt Mildred has a huge grapefruit tree in her yard and I can never resist it. Have you every eaten a grapefruit right off the tree?

Maybe I only think it's amazing because I'm a bit of a city girl, but there's just something about eating fruit you just picked. So here I am with all these fresh grapefruits... what are my favorite ways to use them? This Salad with Grapefruit and Champagne Vinaigrette is one. Detox Smoothie is another.

What is a detox smoothie?

Basically, a detox smoothie is one that has what it takes to flush out your system, but is also chock-full of the vitamins and minerals your body needs to function at its best.

Nothing But Fruit

Now I am all for a green super-food smoothie with spinach or kale because it honestly isn't hard to cover up the taste of the veggies. But this is not that. This detox smoothie has nothing but grapefruit, kiwi, pear, clementines, and just a touch of honey to cut the tartness, so it truly is delicious!

All these fruits are full of fiber, so that's the "detox" part. And the Vitamin C in this smoothie? Seriously, it's more than you need in a day. Did you know one single kiwi has all the Vitamin C you need?

More than oranges! These fruits also come together to give you the calcium, potassium, Vitamin A, Vitamin B6, and magnesium you need.

The Smoothie

Okay, on to the detox smoothie. First, you need to peel, seed, and chop all your fruit. They're all pretty easy to peel... I use my fingers for the clementines, a knife for the grapefruit, a vegetable peeler for the pear and have you seen this trick for peeling kiwi? You just use a spoon!

Once the peel and seeds are out, put the fruit in a blender with 2 cups of ice (if your blender is the same size as mine, you may have to put 1 cup in, blend a little, then add the second cup) and honey to taste.

For mine, I used about a tablespoon and a half of honey, but if your fruit is more tart or sweet you may want to use more or less.

And that's it! This recipe makes two smoothies, so grab a friend and a couple glasses and enjoy your detox smoothie!

I definitely need this detox smoothie in my life right now. First it was Thanksgiving, then Christmas and then my birthday. The junk food was non-stop! haha! I am so in love with all the fresh citrus fruits in this as well - citrus is so invigorating and is such a great pick me up!

We think you'll love it, Angela. The pear gives it a sort of nutty taste.
