Construction Progress: To Sheetrock and Beyond!

We had a great trip to Santa Fe.  What a fun little city! We took lots of pictures and I'll do a post on the trip soon. On returning we were excited to see siding on the house!

And..... The floor of the screened porch was begun. This is new territory for us. We're using a stamped concrete application. It's a compromise between plain old concrete and a pricey stone floor. You pick a color that gets mixed into the concrete before it's poured and then stamped with your chosen design. Then a "release" color is applied. In our case it was in a powder form and sat on the concrete a few days being absorbed. Read along and you'll see the finished product.

(Previous installment of this construction journey is here.)

Then came sheetrock. It's pretty awesome to see actual rooms take shape. This is the great room. Those big sliders are in. I can't wait to see them with that film off, but those babies were a splurge so we will leave them protected as long as needed.

This is the master bedroom. How nice to finally be able to see what the trey ceiling will look like.

Okay, I couldn't help but slip this one in. Our baby granddaughter, Emily, came to check on the progress at the house. I'd say it's pretty obvious that she's pleased with how it's coming along.

Next is a bit of an "oops". This is the wall around the walk in shower in our bathroom. The vision I had was for it to stop about 2 feet short of the ceiling. However...... Plumbing runs through the long side so we will only be able to take off the 2 feet on one short wall.  It's the side towards the window, though so I think it will still help with light and ventilation.

This is the laundry room.  We're planning to install a whole house water filter in here. I've heard great things about them.  They're supposed to extend the life of your appliances such as water heater and washing machine. This is the one we ordered.

The refrigerator we've chosen is one without the dispenser on the front. I thought it would have a sleek look and if our water comes out of  the faucet filtered, the only thing we'll miss is an ice dispenser. With only two of us  I hope we won't miss it too much. Truth is, when we have people over we don't typically use the ice dispenser anyway. Ugh on that noise!

this room is on the back of the house and will be the main guest room.

I'm standing in the dining room here looking toward the foyer leading to the great room in back and across the foyer is the study.

Buddy and Emily check out the screened porch.

Yay! The shed has siding too.

A pretty good shot of the great room showing the coffered ceiling and fireplace. I've been shopping for just the right gas logs. At this point the hardwood floors have been installed. It's hard to tell much about them since they're still unfinished.

okay, this is a close up of the porch floor after the release color was washed off and seal applied. I think it turned out pretty cool.

A bigger view.  It' pretty shiny in places.

This is looking at the study after the hardwoods went in.  The opening will be french doors with sidelights.

I'm standing in the foyer looking towards the front door (as yet to be installed).  Those windows with transoms are in the dining room and study, which are both on the front of the house.

The space straight ahead will have a small butler's pantry.  I'm thinking this will be a useful spot for setting up drinks or appetizers or coffee and dessert.

Masonry on the foundation is underway as I write this and the interior walls have been primed and the first coat of paint on.  Cabinets should go in by the end of next week with trim on the horizon too!

Interior Home Tour after we are settled begins here.
